Banyan Tree Group announces the opening of Banyan Tree Veya Bacalar, which will open in early 2025 in the Bacalar lagoon region, located in the southern part of Quintana Roo.

The $28 million dollar investment resort and 40 villas and residences marks Banyan Tree Group’s sixth location in the country and third in the Yucatan Peninsula, where the group continues to expand its multi-brand portfolio of hotels, resorts, galleries, golf courses, spas and residences.

Located a few hours south of traditional tourist destinations and 30 minutes north of the border with Belize, Bacalar is best known for its crystal clear waters that the native Mayans call “the lagoon of seven colors”, in reference to the multiple hues of water blue, from turquoise to deep-sea indigo.

This serene natural setting is an ideal location for the Group’s newly launched ‘Banyan Tree Veya’ brand extension, providing guests with a comprehensive wellness experience.

Nestled in the southeast of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, near the border with Belize, Banyan Tree Veya Bacalar will feature 35 villas and 5 residences nestled in lush, dense vegetation. Four gastronomic concepts distributed along 90 meters of the extraordinary waters of the Bacalar lagoon, and a specialty restaurant that will offer dinners on the lake, a novelty in the region. Water sports enthusiasts will enjoy a large main pool and equipment available at the lakeside palapa for kayaking and paddle boarding explorations.

Under the Veya brand, extensive wellness programs curated by dedicated consultants will be at the forefront of the property, inspiring guests to embark on a personalized wellness journey. Traditional spa services can be enjoyed at the Banyan Tree Spa, designed to evoke a cenote in honor of the region’s famous underground water caves.

Personalized programs with an emphasis on what the brand calls “incorporation therapies” are delivered through the Veya program, based on Banyan Tree’s proprietary eight pillars of wellness that cover a range of multidisciplinary modalities including sleep, nutritional awareness , physical vitality and harmony with nature. Veya means “weave” and provides the safe space to integrate one’s path to wellness.

Banyan Tree Veya Bacalar is Banyan Tree Group’s second project with developer Grupo UBK, who also developed Banyan Tree Veya Valle de Guadalupe. This is the latest addition to the Group’s rapid growth in Mexico, joining a highly acclaimed portfolio that includes Banyan Tree Mayakoba, Banyan Tree Cabo Marqués in Acapulco, Banyan Tree Puebla and Hacienda Xcanatun by Angsana in Mérida.

Veya’s portfolio includes the newly launched Banyan Tree Veya Phuket (March 2022) and the anticipated openings of Banyan Tree Veya Vabbinfaru in the Maldives (Q4 2022), Banyan Tree Veya Ilha Nejovo in Mozambique (2023), as well as the two openings in Mexico of Banyan Tree Veya Valle de Guadalupe (2023) and Banyan Tree Veya Bacalar (2025).
