Cancun and Chetumal airports expand by Mayan Train
The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, and his cabinet announced the expansion of the Cancun and Chetumal airports as a result of the construction of the Mayan Train, as well as the route will pass through Tulum, Felipe Carrillo Puerto and Bacalar.
“We do not want anarchic development, we are providing facilities for the expansion of airports in Cancun, Chichen Itza, Chetumal,” said AMLO about it.
The president has also signed the call in Spanish on the citizen consultation for the beginning of the construction of the roads and all the infrastructure of this means of transport, which will have three controls: cargo, tourism and transfer of local citizens.
“What we want is that we have developed in the southeast and that it is even throughout the Republic. Here we have many resources, there is 70 percent of water, oil, gas, and archeological areas. We want tourists to reach the northern part of Quintana Roo and travel south, ”he said, according to Novena Quintana Roo reports.
Likewise, the director of the National Fund for the Promotion of Tourism (Fonatur), has assured that the project has almost 100 percent of track agreement and has detailed that they have the support of dependencies of the United Nations Organization.
Regarding the development of the consultation, the undersecretary of government, Diana Álvarez, has consulted the affected boxes installed in the municipalities that are directly involved and the methodology will be published on the Government page.
The construction includes a financial scheme based on public-private partnerships, where the private initiative will contribute 90 percent of the investment. The State will pay them within 30 years with the money collected from the Train operation.
