CANCUN DOMINATES INTERNATINAL AIR TRAVEL IN MEXICO IN 2022.
Mexico’s tourism industry was on the rise in 2022, with Cancun playing a major role in the success. The Cancun International Airport captured nearly half of all international air travelers into Mexico, making it a leading destination for tourists from around the world. According to Miguel Torruco Marqués, head of the Ministry of Tourism, over 20.6 million international tourists arrived in Mexico by air in 2022, a significant increase of 46.3% compared to the previous year.
The three main sources of international air travelers were the United States, Canada, and Colombia, with Cancun, Mexico City International (AICM), and Los Cabos receiving the majority of these tourists. In total, over 15.8 million international air passengers arrived at these three airports, with Cancun alone accounting for over 9.4 million of these arrivals, a 47.7% increase from the previous year.
Mexico saw a total of 107 million air passengers in 2022, with both domestic and international flights contributing to the growth of the country’s aviation industry. This high volume of air travelers demonstrates the growing popularity of Mexico as a top tourist destination and highlights the importance of tourism for the country’s economy.
The Secretary of Tourism also noted that Cancun and the other leading airports are continually working to improve their facilities and services to meet the growing demand from international travelers. With new marketing campaigns aimed at attracting tourists from around the world and the expansion of infrastructure, Mexico is poised for even greater success in the years to come.
