Mexico has officially presented its bid to host the 2036 Olympic Games, following in the footsteps of Los Angeles and Paris.
Secretary of Foreign Affairs Marcelo Ebrard announced the news at an event in Mexico City on Monday, where he stated that his country was “ambitious and triumphant”.
He added: “We have not yet decided whether we will be able to commit ourselves [to hosting] in 2036 or if we will wait until 2040.”

Promoter Committee to be Created

The promoter committee will be created to oversee the project, which will include representatives from several groups. These include entrepreneurs and investors, as well as the Ministry of Culture or the Sports Commission. The official presentation date for members has been set for November 30th this year.

Financing of Olympic Games

The financing of Olympic Games is a complex process. The following table shows the breakdown of funding for the 2020 Tokyo Games:

  • 30% comes from sponsorships
  • 30% from ticket sales
  • 10% covered by host country (Japan)

The remaining 10% must be made up by host country, which could mean that Mexico will have to contribute more than its fair share. However, this may not be as much of a problem as it seems because Mexico has “a lot of infrastructure” that would reduce its investment cost compared with other countries bidding for the 2036 games.

Analysis to Consider Requests from International Olympic Committee

The analysis will determine if cities have to adapt to the Olympic Games or vice versa. Mexico has 15 years to prepare, so it’s important that they focus on what they need to do now in order to be ready for 2036.

Mexico Considered by International Olympic Committee

The President of the Mexican Olympic Committee, María José Alcalá, has stated that Mexico has been considered by the International Olympic Committee to host the Games since July 7. A letter sent by International Committee President Thomas Bach expressing excitement and pride for the country’s bid was also read during a press conference in Mexico City on August 3rd.
In addition to this news, it was announced that the International Olympic Committee will visit Mexico City on September 18th-19th to meet with local officials about their plans for hosting an event of this magnitude.

1968 Olympic Games in Mexico

As you may know, Mexico hosted the 1968 Olympic Games. The event was overshadowed by an attack committed by the Army 10 days before its start, which left hundreds dead and injured in Tlatelolco Plaza. The attack was allegedly ordered by then-president Gustavo Diaz Ordaz, who wanted to prevent protests against his government during such an important event for Mexico’s image abroad.
The 1968 Olympics were held between October 12th and 27th at two venues: Ciudad Universitaria (University City) and Hipodromo de las Americas (Americas Racecourse). A total of 112 countries participated in 18 different modalities: archery; athletics; basketball; boxing; cycling; fencing; football (soccer); gymnastics; handball; hockey on grass (field hockey); judo; modern pentathlon; rowing/canoeing/kayaking/sailing/swimming/synchronized swimming/water polo

2036 Bid Makes Mexico First Country in Latin America to Host Twice

Mexico is the first country in Latin America to host the Olympics twice. The country’s first time was back in 1968, when Mexico City was chosen as the host city for the Games. The 2036 bid would make it just four years after Brazil hosted its second Olympics at Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
With this new opportunity, we can expect to see many real estate investments opportunities arise from investors who want to capitalize on this opportunity and take advantage of all that comes with it!

Real Estate Investment Opportunities in Mexico

As a result of the 2036 Olympic bid, Mexico has the potential for increased tourism and infrastructure development. This could lead to an increase in demand for rental properties in the country.

The city of Guadalajara is one example of a location that could see real estate investment opportunities as a result of this event. The city has been named as one of three finalists who will compete with Tokyo and Madrid for hosting rights at an International Olympic Committee meeting next year (2021). If chosen by IOC officials, Guadalajara would become only the second city outside Europe or North America to host an Olympics since 1992’s Winter Games were held in France’s Albertville.
Currently home to over 2 million people within its metropolitan area alone — not including surrounding communities — Guadalajara already boasts numerous attractions including several universities such as Universidad de Guadalajara (UDG) which offers programs ranging from engineering degrees through graduate studies; Teatro Degollado where operas are performed regularly throughout each season; plus many museums showcasing artwork created by local artists such as Diego Rivera himself!
