Governor Mara Lezama of Quintana Roo, alongside Tourism Secretary Josefina Rodríguez, recently announced a significant initiative to establish five new hotels in the region by 2025. This announcement, made during a gathering with INVEROTEL members, marks a strategic push to diversify tourism and strengthen Quintana Roo as a desirable travel destination. The plan includes exciting projects like the development of a hotel by Grupo Excellence in Puerto Morelos and the forthcoming Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres, which is eagerly anticipated to open its doors on February 12, 2025. Additional developments include Hotel H10 and Hotel Riu Ventura in Costa Mujeres, and another venture by Grupo Meliá in Cancún.

These new hotels will contribute over 2,500 rooms to the local market, creating thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities, thus significantly boosting the regional economy. The revelation was part of the International Tourism Fair (FITUR) 2025, providing a platform for Governor Lezama to engage with key industry figures such as Encarna Piñero and André Gerandeau. This event underscored efforts to enhance commercial relationships and promote tourism in the Mexican Caribbean.

Reflecting wider trends in Cancun and Riviera Maya, these developments align with a shift towards accommodating diverse traveler preferences, including luxury, family, and eco-friendly options. New additions like the Dreams Grand Island Cancun and the Grand Hyatt Cancun Beach Resort are set to redefine hospitality in the area, offering upscale, all-inclusive experiences tailored to meet the varied needs of modern travelers.

The proactive measures taken by Governor Lezama and her administration highlight a commitment to reinforcing Quintana Roo’s position as a top travel destination. By expanding its hospitality infrastructure, the region not only anticipates a surge in tourism but also prepares to harness the economic benefits of increased visitor numbers. With these strategic developments, Quintana Roo is poised for a vibrant future, promising a substantial uplift in its tourism and economic sectors.
