Newly formed hotel council of Quintana Roo to boost tourism and investment. This newly-formed organization represents over 125,000 hotel rooms in the region and aims to unite and represent the interests of hoteliers, as well as create a common agenda to address the needs of the sector. One of its key objectives is to collaborate with the state government to optimize the resources invested in tourist promotion and increase the number of visitors to the area.

Antonio Chaves, the current leader of the Association of Hotels of the Riviera Maya, was appointed as the first president of the Hotel Council during the Tianguis Turistico 2023 event. Chaves highlighted that the council will work closely with the government to generate a greater flow of visitors to the region, which saw 19 million tourists last year. The council will also lobby federal authorities for a tourism agenda that resolves issues such as facilitating the entry of international tourists, eliminating visas for Brazilian tourists, and offering better attention to visitors.

In addition, the council will address public safety, seaweed disposal, and regulate the vacation rental sector. The council will have an itinerant board of directors, and every six months, the presidency will change among all its members. The current council comprises Antonio Chaves as president, David Ortiz Mena as vice-president, Miriam Cortés as secretary, and Fernando Beristain as treasurer. Jesus Almaguer Salazar, Raul Andrade, and Ramon Rossello also serve as members of the council.

During the same event, the Tourism Investment Trust was also installed, with a committee solely composed of hotel entrepreneurs who will have a say in decision-making regarding the destination of 700 million pesos, approximately one-fifth of what is collected from the Lodging Tax. The council believes that by working together, they can successfully face any challenge and take advantage of opportunities to make the Mexican Caribbean one of the most visited destinations in Latin America and the world.
